Assadpam Conference 2017

East London International Convention Centre

September 27, 2017 – September 29, 2017

The 2017 ASSADPAM conference comes in a politically significant year in South Africa and abroad. These developments inspire deeper interrogation of the challenges to effective Public Administration. This Call for Papers thus asks for a reflection on the significance of Public Administration at the precipice of potential change.

Cultures, philosophies and reforms in Public Administration for the globalizing world: a reflection on local, regional and international perspectives.

The University of Fort Hare celebrated its Centenary in 2016. The South African Native College, later the University of Fort Hare (UFH), was founded in 1916 on the site of the earlier British military stronghold. The college originated from the sometimes uneasy alliance between the new class of educated African Christians, supported by a number of traditional Southern African leaders, and early twentieth-century white liberals, many of them clergy. However, it did not make the assumption, central to the Bantu Education implemented in South Africa from the 1950's, that black Africans required or deserved a different, inferior education. As a testament to this, UFH has produced an illustrious list of alumni from all over Africa, including alumni like Oliver Tambo, Nelson Mandela, Govan Mbeki, Robert Sobukwe and Mangosuthu Buthelezi in South Africa, Robert Mugabe and Herbert Chitepo in Zimbabwe, and Elius Mathu and Charles Njonjo in Kenya.

With three campuses located in Alice, Bhisho and East London in the Eastern Cape, UFH is a vibrant, equitable and sustainable African university, committed to teaching and research excellence at the service of its students, scholars and the wider community. UFH aims to provide high quality education of international standards, contributing to the advancement of knowledge that is socially and ethically relevant and applying technological and socio-economic development of South Africa and the wider world (Website:
